Nachdem mir ein guter Freund ein paar Brocken für einen etwas schnelleren PC vermacht hat, habe ich mich auf die Suche begeben nach einem OS um ihn in einen Media Center PC zu verwandeln.

zwei distributionen fielen in die engere Wahl: Linux.-mce und Mythbuntu

Ich habe mich für Mythbuntu entschieden, eine auf Ubuntu basierende Distro mit Myth TV

Gestern abend war es soweit, ein erster Test der komponenten hat gezeigt dass alles gut funktioniert. also nix wie druff dat linux!

Wie ich es von ubuntu gewohnt bin, ging die installation komplett automatisch und ohne eingreifen menerseits von statten. Am ende kam die Frage ob ich Fernbedienungen angeschlossen hätte, und welchen Ausgang meine grafikkarte benutzen, vga oder video. in meinem fall video, da es an einen alten fernseher gehängt wird.

und was soll ich sagen: alles funzt bestens. bluetooth tastatur erkannt, videoeingang erkannt, videoausgang korrekt konfiguriert, etc. heute abend schaue ich mal was ich damit alles anstellen kann
(gleich nachdem ich mich des lärms angenommen habe, das ding ist noch saulaut )

For the 2nd time in a month my Palm Pre died. Same failure as the 1st time. The display doesnt react on touches anymore.
Palm Service here in germany is very kind but lacks some essential things:
1. After I recieved a message "we will soon reply" nothing happened. I had to call again. - and again ....
2. within the first 30 days O2 was responsible for the device. the 1st time it went corrupt O2 repaired it - without knowing what to do, they simply changed the display, which was not the trigger for the error, just the result. - it had to die again

3. I will not get a new device. just a repaired one

and the really worst thing:

4. for 30 days now i have no working cell phone.

no really: they should react faster, without this much bureaucracy. (no joke: at least 20 phone calls 10 emails, 3 faxes) I think I can expect a working phone for 480 Euros. my old nokia is 8 years old, working every day till 1 month ago (cost: 1 euro ...)

es hat ein komplett neues oberteil bekommen.... und geht wieder \o/ ... alle daten sind vorher online gesichert worden, einschalten . fertig geht !!

das touchdisplay is abgeraucht. hat keine eingabe mehr angenommen.


also habe ich bei palm angerufen. dort hat man mir sehr plausibel erklärt, in den ersten dreißig tagen ist o2 dafür verantwortlich.
o2 hat mir erklärt ich sei kein direkter kunde, es ist ihnen egal,
und der händler von dem ich es habe (der auch o2 verkäufer ist) hat erklärt o2 muss sich drum kümmern. na danke.
ich hab das dingen trotzdem meinem händler zurückgegeben: mit ihm habe ich einen vertrag zum kauf eines funktionstüchtigen gerätes !

naja. mal schaun wie lange sie sich zeit lassen mir ein austauschgerät zu schicken.

my old Cellphone just spits out single *.vcf files, one for each contact. This is kind of odd, cause the only way to import it to your Palm Pre is to import it first to Gmail and let the Mobile Device sync.

Now I definetly do not want to import 150+ contacts to GMAIL one by one.

What to do?

Just copy all single vcf files into a big one!
VERY SIMPLE WAY:

- open a cmd and go to the directory where you stored all your *.vcf files.
- use the command

copy *.vcf  bigone.vcf

result is a file called bigone.vcf, where you combined all single files. now import this to gmail and your done.

Its soooooo simple!
