Two weeks ago I followed Hans Ottens invitation to join him visiting the
TECMUMAS - Technikmuseum Matthias Schmitt
So I took the noon off and headed on a hot saturday afternoon to Bad König in the Odenwald, 1 h south of Frankfurt.
And it was worth the stress driving there. The museum is a completely private financed enthusiast thing, with a great part of his collection aquired from the electronic waste site and then traded into other rare items. Some exponats are so ultra rare, you can olny find three existing in this galaxy - and two of them are located here in Bad König.
Matthias, the owner, has ~1400 computers (+ manuals, boxes, software, cables - lots of them) and shows them in changing exponations. He spends all of his spare time to run this. The museum itself is in an old factory, the Hamburger Zigarrenfabrik, a building acquired and renovated by Matthias for his extraordinary hobby.
So I got to met Hans in person, very cool meeting you idols ;) - and Matthias was a great host. We had a 2 hour chatter about god and the world and retro computers.
Thank you Matthias and your wife for building your dream and making it visitable.
I strongly recommend, if you are near this area to give it a go. PPlease take a look on the museums website for the opening times.
