Niklaus Wirth passed away on January 1st.

He is mostly known as the inventor of PASCAL, the programming language that succeeded ALGOL. It needs another BLOG to list all of his innovations and inventions: http://pascal.hansotten.com/.

Wirth wanted to bring simplicity back to the computers. Most remarkable in my eyes is his OS called Oberon:
